Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord  

 

    The first Ukrainian Catholic parishes in Brazil were built in Paraná, located in cities such as Ivaí, Mallet, and Prudentópolis. In Ponta Grossa, the first Ukrainian church was inaugurated in mid-1952 by Father Nicolau Ivaniv. The church was built entirely of wood, with only the facade made of masonry; therefore, another church was built, which was blessed in 1978. This time, the entire church was constructed of masonry, in the Ukrainian Catholic Byzantine style with Byzantine-style domes.

   The Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord belongs territorially to the Diocese of Ponta Grossa and spiritually to Curitiba. The religious tradition of the Ukrainians is preserved in this church.

    The Ukrainian Greek Catholic rite is observed; only on Saturdays is the service conducted in Portuguese. On Sundays, the solemn Mass is conducted in Ukrainian.
