​Roxo de Rodrigues Station (São Paulo – Rio Grande)

 

Built between 1899 and 1900, this solid, elegant, and striking building—featuring neoclassical and Art Nouveau architectural elements—served not only as a freight transfer station but also as a stop on the international train route (Itararé–Uruguay). At the time, it stood out for its location and size and was considered a first-class station.
         As the railroad in Paraná expanded, the Paraná Station building could no longer accommodate the constant growth in passenger and freight traffic, which is why the São Paulo–Rio Grande Station was built and inaugurated in 1900. It was expanded in 1908, and its original features remain preserved to this day.
          The building was designated a Cultural Heritage Site of Paraná in 1990, and today it houses a branch of SESC ESTAÇÃO SAUDADE.

            The center has organized various workshops—all of which are FREE. There are workshops on jazz, creative dance, creative bookmarks, arts and crafts, contemporary dance, fashion design, dance theater, and poetic writing, among others. Oh... and there’s plenty of storytelling, a library, activities for seniors, a souvenir shop, a museum, and guided tours so you can see up close just how beautiful this important landmark in Ponta Grossa’s history has become, not to mention the Café Escola Senac, which offers great products.
