Arte Station - Former Freight Station

Built in an eclectic style, the Paraná Railroad Warehouse was constructed of wood next to Paraná Station in 1896 to serve as a freight depot for RFFSA (Rede Ferroviária Federal S/A). Its function within the railroad complex was to store various products and materials imported from other countries. This warehouse operated until the 1970s, when it was decommissioned and its operations were transferred to the Uvaranas neighborhood.

      

In 1910, this warehouse was renovated and converted to masonry construction after suffering a fire. From 1996 to the end of 2007, the space also housed Estação Arte, a venue for cultural activities, and in March 2008, the station began hosting the Mercado da Família, where the city’s low-income residents have access to products at discounted prices.
