​Cultural Center

The eclectic-style building, formerly the residence of Amando Cypriano da Cunha, was built around 1907. With the steady growth of Ponta Grossa in the 1920s, there was a need to establish a secondary school to serve Ponta Grossa and the surrounding region. In February 1927, the Ginásio Regente Feijó was established, and the state government acquired the aforementioned building to serve as its headquarters.
Due to the increase in the number of students, the high school moved to another building on Praça Barão do Rio Branco, and the building on Dr. Colares Street began housing the Ponta Grossa Normal School until 1950, when the “Cesar Pietro Martinez” Institute of Education was established and occupied the space until 1984.
In 1988, the property was donated to the City of Ponta Grossa, and the Cultural Center was inaugurated, hosting exhibitions, artistic performances, and cultural activities, such as “Quarta Cultural.” It was designated by COMPAC as a Cultural Heritage Site of Ponta Grossa in 2002.
In 2015, the building’s structure was restored using funds from the City of Ponta Grossa itself, through the Municipal Culture Foundation. The following spaces are available for use: the Avelino Vieira Hall—an auditorium with a capacity of 176 people (the space features an Essenfelder piano on its stage), the João Pilarski Gallery on the second floor, and the entrance lobby on the first floor.
