​Sant'Anna Cathedral

In 1823, after Ponta Grossa became a parish, it became necessary to build a chapel, as the altar at the Casa de Telhas was no longer adequate to serve the parish. The highest point in the city was then chosen for the construction of a simple chapel to house the statue of Sant’Anna. Around 1863, the church—which had neither towers nor side aisles—was expanded.

In 1906, it became necessary to build a new church, which was designed by the Italian architect Nicolau Ferigoti. It stood out for its distinctive style and for being visible from various locations, as it was situated atop a hill.

In 1978, demolition of the cathedral began, and a new one was built on the same site, featuring a more modern style.
