​Santa Bárbara Chapel

The chapel’s history is linked to the presence of the Jesuits and the movement of troops in the region. In 1727, the Conceição or Pitangui land grant was donated to the Society of Jesus, and the Jesuits established the Pitangui Farm there. In 1729, a small wooden structure was erected to serve as an oratory.
     With the opening of the Caminho das Tropas in 1731—which passed through the area—the priests dedicated the chapel to Saint Barbara. As it was the first chapel built in the city, it was listed by COMPAC in 2000 and has been fully restored and preserved.

Location: Access to the site is via the Arichernes Gobbo Highway (turn left after passing the overpass over the ALL yard, heading toward the Dal Col residential area). After traveling 2 km, turn right, passing under a railroad overpass. Continue straight for another 5 km and turn left, traveling another 2 km until you reach a gate.

Visiting Hours: Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Admission: 10 reais, or a 10-real purchase at the café.
